Bien arrivé a Amsterdam!!
Je suis bien arrivé a Amsterdam, depuis bientôt une semaine maintenant, le temps passe trop vite et la vie sur la base est vraiment génial (premier chasse au bœuf ce matin: un taureau de 400kg abattu!!). Je vous raconterai bientôt la fin de mon voyage et l'arrivée sur Ams
I am on Amsterdam now since one week. Time is going on very fast and life here is very exciting!!! (first cow hunted this morning...) I will write the end of my trip soon.

On a eu la chance pendant la rotation de voir les
différentes îles formant l'archipel de Crozet vu que le Préfet des TAAF était a
bord du bateau. Apres l'île de la
Possession
La troisième et dernière île sur notre chemin est l'île aux
pingouins (photos 3 et 4), de loin ma préférée (après Amsterdam bien sur!!!). Elle a de très
belles falaises et abrites de nombreux oiseaux. Ces îles sont classées en
réserve intégrale, on n'a donc pas pu mettre le pied à terre.
The "Prefet" (like the big boss in charge of these territories) was on board with us. Since he wanted to visit all his "domain" we had the opportunity to see (from the boat) the different island of this area. After the Possesion island (main island) we saw the "Apostle island" (picture 1) called like this because of the rocs on the shore. We saw then the "Pig island" (picture 2) were is located the biggest king penguin colony of the world. Around 200 000 birds, ten times more than the one I visited on the main island!!! The third island was the "penguin island" (pictures 3 and 4). It's from far my favorite one (after Amsterdam, of course!!) because of the wonderfull cliffs and the numerous birds living there. Since these island are a natural parcs, it's not permitted, unfortunately, to walk on there.

Première escale Crozet – First stop at Crozet
Ca fait maintenant bientôt 15 jours que j'ai quitté Paris. Apres 10H30 de vol, on a atterri à la Réunion. Le soleil, la chaleur et la mer chaude nous attendaient. On a directement embarqué sur le Marion Dufresne et levé l'encre à 18h. Au cours du voyage en direction de Crozet, la température s'est progressivement refroidie et la mer un peu agitée. Mais les 40emes Rugissant n'ont pas été à la hauteur de leur réputation… On verra, le voyage n'est pas encore fini! Samedi 8/11 on était à Crozet. Au réveil, les manchots royaux avaient entouré le bateau. Au loin, l'île de la Possession, île de l'archipel de Crozet où se trouve la base Alfred Faure et de l'autre coté, l'île de l'Est.
La température est autour de 10°C mais avec le vent, la température ressentie est proche de 2-3°C, et c'est le début de l'été! Bon courage aux hivernants de Crozet!
Le débarquement s'est effectué en hélicoptère (premier vol, mais un peu court!). après une rapide visite de la base, direction la manchotière dans la baie du Marin qui abrite 20000 manchots royaux, des manchots papous, des pétrels géants, des albatros, des skuas, des éléphants de mer, des orques… Un très bon moment, presque irréel. On a ensuite repris la mer toujours très calme (ou alors c'est qu'on s'habitue!) pour atteindre Kerguelen le 12 novembre. Après avoir contourné l'île et ravitaillé différentes cabanes, on a pu débarquer le 14 au matin à Port aux Français, la base de Ker. Je suis actuellement sur Kerguelen et on y reste 6 jours avec notamment la formation météo qui avait été annulé à Toulouse! C'est mieux comme ca! Puis nous repartirons pour Amsterdam, destination finale!

I left Paris 15 days ago now!!! Already!. After a 10h30 flight, we landed at the Reunion island under the sun and hot temperature. We went directly on bord on the Marion Dufresne and left at 18h. Days after days, in direction to Crozet, the temparature was decreasing (staying now around 10°C the good days!) The sea was not too bad and at the moment we still don't need to be taped on our chairs!!! Saturday 8.11.08 we woke up in front of Crozet with king penguins all around the boat! They area very curious animals! Temperature is arond 10°C but because of the wind blowing permanently, the temperature felt is close to 0°C. Good luck for the team staying there!! It won't be easy every day!
The landing has been done in helicoptere. That was my first flight, but too short (only 1min!). we first visited the base called Alfred Faure and then went to the "penguin area". Around 20000 king penguins are living there but also albatros, giant petrels, elefant seals and killer whales! Wonderful show! Back on bord, we took the direction of Kerguelen. We reached the island the 12th November. During one days the boat went around the island to change/complete the food stockes in differents shelters and the 14th we finally landed in Port-aux-Francais. I am at the moment on Kerguelen and we stay here 6 days (with the Meteo France formation, which has been cancelled in Toulouse) And then final destination: Amsterdam Island. Bad news: there are no dutch TV team on bord...
