Direction Amsterdam!!!
Last part of the trip was quite hard: we were less and less on the boat and really looking forward to reach Amsterdam! Until the end the sea was really quiet, no strong sensation... Too bad! I will have to come back! Days after days, we felt the temperature getting higher and higher meaning we were in the good direction! The 22/11/08 we woke up in front of St Paul, small island of 9km², environmentally protected (that's mean, nobody is authorized to walk on...) But St Paul was the expected sign: we were on our district (called St Paul and Amsterdam) It was time to pack again all my stuff in the luggage. It was quite complicated (it was such a big mess!) but we were so excited to leave finally the boat that it was no big deal!
After lunch, we were all on the upper level and then, through the clouds our island appeared, just like a mirage! We were all smiling (for those who saw me that day in Netherlands, I was just like when I knew I was going there!!!) Strange behaviour appeared: Cecile was imitating a sea lion and Gabi dancing! At least it was our turn!!!
We reached first the south coast and the Entrecastaux cliff, the the Del Cano headland, the "phylica" forest (only kind of tree before human came) and the "Austral", boat fishing the lobster. And then, the base. Home sweet home, here i am! With binoculars, we saw everybody running to be ready in time. Further, i could see Pointe Benedicte (Pointe B), where i am going to do all the measurement, 2km far from the base. Unfortunately, there was to much wave and wind for the helicopter, so we had to wait for better conditions. It was not a funny time!
And now it's time to go in the helicopter, we flew above the base and reached the DZ (drop zone) where we had a crazy welcome. For sure, the best of the three districts!!! But let's talk about this later!
