OP3

OP3, la 5eme OP que j'aurai vécu sur Ams, mais aussi la dernière!!! Quand le Marion reviendra nous chercher, il ne s'arretera pas, même pas d'hélico pour nous chercher, juste le zodiaque!! C'est aussi à cette OP qu'on a accueilli a Géophy toute la nouvelle équipe de VCAT venue nous remplacer et qu'on a vu Hélène repartir!

OP3, the 5th OP i had here on Amsterdam but also the last one!!! Next time the Marion comes, it's for me but it won't stay long and there wont' have any helicopter!!! This OP is also the one when the new team of volunteer arrived, it means a lot for us! This OP was also the one when Helene left the island!

Cette OP marquait aussi le départ en retraite d'Henri Perau, le responsable logistique de l'IPEV qui a hiverné en 1969 sur Amsterdam comme menuisier et qui tout au long de notre hivernage a été d'un grand soutien!! Pour son dernier passage, sur le dernier district de la rotation et aussi le district où il a hiverné, on a voulu lui rendre un petit hommage a notre façon et avec les moyens du bord. On s'est donc confectionné des T-shirt avec le logo de l'IPEV et chacun une lettre pour faire son prénom!

This Op was also the last one for Henri Perau, the man in charge of all the logistic at the IPEV (polar institute) He over-wintered in 1969 and during our overwintering he was a great support for us here!!! For his last visit, we wanted to pay homage to him with our light means. We customized T-shirt with the IPEV logo and his name.

Premiers vols hélico, on récupère la dépêche postale. Je suis de Playmobile avec Steve le chaud froid de la base. On a aussi reçu la visite du Préfet des TAAF accompagné par le député de la Somme et sa femme et Mme Ricard qui siège au conseil consultatif des TAAF. Des le début de l'OP les opération de cale ont commencé avec la portière qui nous livre tous le gros matériel ne pouvant passer par hélico.

First helicopter flight, we got the mail. I am playmobile with Steve. The Prefet (high administrator of the islands) is visiting us with other politics. As soon as the Marion arrived, they start to send big stuff by boat to the Cale.

Dès le 2eme jour, la passation de consigne commence et je montre à Sylvain, un de mes remplaçants, en quoi ça consiste d'être playmobile!

As from the 2nd day, i started to teach to Sylvain one of my replacement how to be a good playmobile!

La base vue depuis l'hélico. Les chasseurs ont fait un comptage photo pour connaitre le nombre exact de vaches restantes. Bientôt la fin du troupeau!!

Sur la DZ le dernier jour, une dernière photo avec Hélène, un dernier petit hommage et hop il est temps de partir! Mais une semaine avant son départ elle nous a annoncé une sacré nouvelle: elle médicalisera le Marion Dufresnes pendant la campagne océano qui vient nous chercher. elle fait sa car on a commencé l'aventure ensemble, alors on l'a fini ensemble!!

Last picture with Helene on the DZ, we had a surprise for her (T-shirt, again) and then it's time to leave. But she told us, one week before leaving that she'll come back with the Marion to bring us hoime!! We strated this adventure together, so we'll finish it together!

L'Austral est lui aussi venu saluer le Marion avant son départ. C'est en voyant les 2 bateaux côte à côte qu'on se rend mieux compte de leur taille!

The Austral came close to the Marion Dufresne before this last one left. Both side to side, it's easier to compare their size!

Ensuite le Marion s'en va, on se retrouve presque tous sur la DZ, on partage une bière et on échange encore quelques mots à la radio avec Hélène et Carlos qui est lui aussi parti. Le Marion devient plus qu'un tout petit point a l'horizon et là je me suis dis: "la prochaine fois qu'on le voit, c'est pour nous!!!" Depuis que le bateau est parti le temps passe super vite, y'a encore plein de choses que je veux faire ou refaire avant de partir et comme c'est l'été c'est parfait!

Then the Marion left, we are almost all here on the DZ, sharing a beer, talking with Helene and Carlos through radio a last time. The boat is just a small dot on the horizon and then i realised " next time we see it, it's our turn!" Since it left, time is running very fast. they are so many things i still want to do or to do again before leaving!! Fortunately, it's summer here and the weather is perfect!

Toute l´année j´ai lu ton blog sans laisser de commentaires (mais Del Cano, Entrecastaux, le Marion...c´était passionnant).
Bon retour et à bientôt aux Crêts peut-être.
